Age Spots, Skin Discoloration, Varicose And Spider Veins Treatment

Cardiolin Varicose And Spider Veins TreatmentLeg Varicose Veins are a very common condition which affects both men and women. They tend to be hereditary, and are more common in individuals with certain lifestyle circumstances; i.e., occupations involving excessive standing, which has a cumulative effect over the years. For women, pregnancy, often plays a significant role in both the initial development and progression of varicose veins.

Veins are a low pressure network of blood vessels that return blood to the heart. In our everyday lives, our legs are usually below the level of the heart, and therefore must return blood against the forces of gravity. To accomplish this, the leg veins depend upon external compressive forces from the contraction of the surrounding muscles, in conjunction with a series of one-way valves that allow blood to flow only in one direction, towards the heart.

In many individuals, for unknown reasons, these valves eventually fail, resulting in a buildup of pressure in the veins, termed "venous reflux". This often leads to the gradual distention and elongation of the superficial leg veins, leading to the characteristic appearance of varicose veins.

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins close to the surface of the skin. Varicose veins develop when you have faulty valves in your veins and weakened vein walls. Normally, the one-directional valves in these veins keep the blood flowing efficiently against gravity. However, when these valves do not function properly, the blood can leak back into the vein and collect there, pressure builds up, and the veins become weakened, enlarged, and twisted.
In addition to the cosmetic impact, varicose veins often produce unpleasant symptoms such as, tired, heavy, aching legs. These symptoms are aggravated by activities such as sitting, standing, walking, or other recreational activities, including sports.

K-Dermis Varicose And Spider Veins TreatmentThere are number of affective treatment option for leg varicose veins, including graduated compression stockings, sclerotherapy, surgery, and endovenous laser treatment.
Treatment decision can be complex and a successful outcome depends on a thorough understanding of venous disorders.

Varicose veins and spider veins can develop on any part of the body, including the face, but most often appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. There are several methods of reducing or removing varicose veins, but most treatments include painful injections or surgery.

Spider veins (starbursts) are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller, often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider veins can be found on the legs and face.

Some people may be more likely than others to develop varicose veins and spider veins because of inherited characteristics, aging process, being overweight, not exercising enough, smoking, standing or sitting for long periods of time, hormone changes or having DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).

Hormonal changes occur during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Taking birth control pills and other medicines containing estrogen and progesterone also increase the risk of varicose or spider veins.
Spider veins usually do not need medical treatment. But enlarge varicose veins worsen over time. Severe varicose veins can cause health problems - blood clots and infections.

Symptoms caused by venous insufficiency and varicose veins include aching pain, easily tired legs, and leg heaviness, all of which worsen as the day goes on. Many people find they need to sit down in the afternoon and elevate their legs to relieve these symptoms.

Take regular exercise and avoid prolonged sitting or standing. Wriggle your feet and clench your calves to keep the circulation going, and try to get up and stretch your legs regularly. Cross the legs at the ankles instead of the knees when sitting. Avoid high heels, which limit the use of the calf muscles and avoid restrictive clothing that constricts your waist, groin, or legs.

The single most important thing a person can do to slow down the development of new varicose veins is to wear graduated compression support stockings as much as possible during the day. Compression stockings also can help heal skin sores and prevent them from returning. You may be required to wear compression stockings daily for the rest of your life. For many people compression stockings effectively treat varicose veins and maybe that is all you need to relieve pain and swelling and prevent future problems.

Current treatments for varicose veins and spider veins have very high success rates compared to traditional surgical treatments. Over a period of years, however, more abnormal veins can develop. The major reason for this is that there is no cure for weak vein valves. So with time, pressure gradually builds up in the leg veins. Ultrasound can be used to keep track of how badly the valves are leaking (venous insufficiency). Ongoing treatment can help keep this problem under control.

Varicose veins surgical procedures:

  • Surgical Vein Stripping: This procedure is done in the hospital while the patient is under general anesthesia. Incisions are made at the bottom (ankle end) and the top (groin end) of the varicose vein. A thin, wire-like instrument is inserted into the vein. That "strips," or clears, the vein from the inside. Small incisions can also be made over individual veins to remove them.
  • Sclerotherapy: This procedure is done while the patient is standing. The salt solution is injected into each varicose vein to cause scarring that closes off the vein. An elastic bandage is wrapped snugly around the legs after the procedure.
  • Endovenous Ablation Therapy: This is an outpatient procedure. The therapy uses heat to destroy varicose vein tissue. A thin catheter (or tube) is inserted into the vein through a tiny skin incision under local anesthesia. Then, using either a laser or radio wave (radiofreqency) energy, the vein is heated and cauterized. This closes off the vein.
